1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues? Our commercial challenged conventions by exaggerating them throughout the video. Things such as theme, characters, plotlines, and mood are all used to help make a fun and family friendly atmosphered music video. For example, including clips of us on the swings and playing uno at different points of the day gave the music video a more homemade vlog vibe, which is what a lot of families like to do. My video helps to talk mostly to kids and families.
2. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text? My product engages with the audience by doing things they've all done at one point, have fun. This is shown by Eric putting words on the screen in the beginning and us running around and playing. Things such as youtube and tv would be perfect for people to view our video on. Before and after shows and videos.
3. How did your production skills develop throughout this project? Throughout the production process I feel as if I’ve grown a lot in little time. In the beginning of our production I had to find a way to film in an unconventional way, since the pandemic restricted a lot of things. Doing everything on a phone was very difficult and furthermore I learned a lot more about how lighting can help a video. I feel like this has taught me that the weather does in fact mean a lot when it comes to how you want your video to come out, so film lighting is something that needs to definitely be considered. Another skill I developed is the ability to make successful camera angles. I was able to achieve both high and low camera shots on my first try, which is an improvement.
4. How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project? For our music video we used the more modern pieces of technology to produce and edit our final product. To actually shoot the project i used my phone, only because we didn’t have a tripod or any other filming device. I have to say though that the editing process was better this time due to the fact it was done on a computer by Eric. After we shot our video Eric used iMovie to crop and add sound effects to the video so it would be more like a music video, and Google docs also helped me write down some of my scrambled thoughts and keep track of everything I was doing for our group video.
