- What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?
There were many images prioritized in the opening sequence. The scenery of some sort of innovative contraption holding our solar system in space was displayed for most of the video. Another prioritized image would be the conflict shown after the camera zooms down into Earth. The conflict being the beheading of King Louis XVI in 2D animation. After showing that image, the camera zooms out of Earth to show to solar system/ time-controlling contraption. The camera then zooms back into Earth to show a real-life woman reading a book. The inclusion of this scene implies it had importance; thus, being another image prioritized in this opening sequence.
- What connotations do these images carry?
A connotation these images carry is mystery, drama, and maybe a bit of suspense. The opening sequence is almost 4 minutes, with the showing of the titles being slow and taking its time. Having a lot of time in between the showing of titles in the way this film did it allows for the audience to be taken on a journey. The travelling through space as the audience keeps an eye out for those titles bring a lot of mystery into view and that can make it suspenseful. Also, the image of the 2D King Louis XVI being executed and the aftermath sold the drama aspect of the film.
- How does the film establish a feeling of the genre from the outset?
The film establishes a feeling of drama and mystery from the outset by including an object of some sort in space that no one is aware of. This brings along the mysterious aspect, as well as the drama aspect, as the contraption was used to show some conflict on Earth.
- What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience?
The strategies used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience are its mysterious and dramatic mood and its effects that correlate to the film title. The music and camera movements are in some sort of rhythmic pattern, which allows for the targeted audience to feel intrigued, yet dramatically confused. Dramatically confused, more specifically to when the mood somewhat changed when the scene goes to the beheading scene. The change back, which is when the camera comes back from Earth to space contraption, provides the same music and mood as before. This will further appeal to the targeted audience as they will be intrigued to learn what that quick change could have meant.
- How has technology been used effectively? You want to consider camera angles, transitions and editing techniques.
Technology has been used effectively in this opening sequence. An editing technique shown that has brought a dramatic feeling would be the addition of the 2D beheading scene and the sudden mood change it brought along with it. An editing technique causing the same effect, as well as a mysterious feeling, would be the change from the glorious space apparatus, to the drama on Earth scene, and back to the solar system gadget. The change in mood will definitely strike an interest in the audience as they will be intrigued as to what the change meant and why it happened.
