The Invitation is a thriller, psychological, horror. It is about a man, Will, who gets invited to a dinner party, by his late ex-wife, to reunite with friends after two years. This movie had a lot of similar element my partners and I talked about in our meeting.
One of Eric's idea for the movies was to have a bit of tension between two of the characters, and or , imply that there was something off between them. In the movie, the audience is left to wonder about what happened to the relationship of the characters. The reunion was very off between the friends because of the lost of the ex's son. The ex's wife seemed as if she was trying to leave the legacy of her son behind, while the husband, was not ready to let go. The tension starts to increase as he realizes that his ex has changed for the worst. There was also a small scene where the ex's were catching up in the kitchen, as the wife is talking about how she had found her new purpose in life. One of the friends joins in, and expresses how he doesn't believe in what she is saying which leads into her slapping him. We want to utilize the power of that type of tension, to add more drama to the cliff hanger. This will also be used to possibly tell two stories at once. Throughout the movie, there was high pitched sounds, to add to this eerie, ominous sound. We haven't really talked about it too much but we do want to add sounds like this to indicate the killer, or, add to the eerie tone of the movie. In the beginning of the movie there was also this ominous sound playing during the credits as the ex husband and his now girlfriend, drove through the streets before getting the the house. We discussed how we wanted to start the movie off wit the characters walking and talking, for a couple of seconds in the movie as well. There was an idea to have us not have any dialog through that scene but a song playing in the background. It would be a good idea to find a eerie instrumental like the one used in the movie to start ours off. This is still up n the air with the group. But we agreed that we would worry about that as we start the the process of plan and constructing.
